Starting a 7.4 mpi from long storage

By now, everyting is bone dry of sufficient oil to lube journals, rings lifters etc. I would pull dist and prime oil pump with drill and if possible turn over by hand while doing so. I would also pull the valve covers and check spring pressures. Lube cylinders before firing. Not sure about fuel system, someone else will chime in on that and probly correct me, I'm no expert, just a shade tree mech. giving my 2 cts worth.

do you have a junk distributor? punch out pin and remove the gear. break off the top and grind some flats to fit a socket on it. now you have an engine primer. take out oil sending unit. spin dist until oil comes out. put sending unit in. spin it more. you will feel drill drop rpms and may even see pressure on the guage. this can also be done with large screwdriver, but it doesn't like to stay in the slot in pump drive rod.
