Stock Merc exhaust
Ok, I am tired of getting stopped for my exhaust.
20 minutes out yesterday and we were being questioned. Thankfully it was the most pleasant experience with any water patrol! However now I am thinking of some changes. I really do not run out top end all the time and am thinking of 'closing' up my exhaust. Current I have stock Merc 502's, stock exhaust with 3" riser blocks and Imco Y diverter. I removed the silent choice actuators and welded up the holes many years ago. So my exhaust goes both straight out, or when I have the Teague 4.5"s closed some backs up to the Y pipe. What I am thinking of doing is removing the Y diverter and just going with a 90 elbow down to the y pipe. Yea I know it will hinder performance, but honestly I would rather go out and run slower all the time then go out and get stopped. Can anyone help that might have some used elbows that I can buy? Would rather go inexpensive in case it really does not work out :) Needing 4 for the twins :) Thanks |
something like this, go to ebay. they are there all time, from 10 bucks to way overpriced...another thought, you have the diverter bodies without flappers in them? what if you plug the 4 outlet tips?

how about some muffler tips you can find them on ebay all the time still sounds mean but complies?

I believe there is a warning on your diverter system, not run above 3000 or 3500rpm. It puts too much back pressure on the engine running the exhaust through the prop on larger engine. Your exhaust temps will go up.

I forgot :( Thanks for the reminder! :) anyone do custom stainless welding? My transom tips are hard ones to reconfigure, but i am tired of always being on the 'guard' for water patrol! |
that's your boat? screw 'em! see flashing lights, push on the sticks!! they ain't catching you with a RIB with an outboard!! of course, they will be waiting at the dock when you get back...ok, how about glass mufflers inside boat where the diverters are now. that boat with thru-prop exhaust is just...wrong!!!

How about slip in mufflers/silencers, that is what I use when I need them. Takes 10 minutes for all 4. They will work with your existing setup. Check out CP Performance. I they claim a 10db in noise reduction.

There are a ton of muffler options. The slip ins that were mentioned... there are also inline for inside the boat. You could also get a custom set made.
Better yet, why not go back to quick and quiet? |
