Default Imco shorty

I posted this over in the drives forum but it wasnt getting any action so i thought id try here. I just finished swapping my standard bravo lower for an imco-2. My question is the tail end of the Imco is shorter than the original merc lower where the cavitation plate would be. So in the area under where the rear anode would be is now open and not sealed. I'm assuming this is the exhaust passage for through the prop but is there a cover or plate that's supposed to cover this? Or is it ok to run it that way?

There is a triangle shaped piece of aluminum that comes with the Cav plate to cover it. I don't know if it will hurt to run without it.
