Does anyone know if the vent line has a tube running to the front of the tank? I would think it would have to, otherwise it would be submerged with anything over 2/3 tank. Have not run it or filled it since I picked it up in the winter and seeing how it is 24 years old, must not be a problem.

For your problem, I agree it is an air expansion issue, not a fuel expansion issue. somehow the air was trapped and pushed the fuel out.

Almost always, if the vent comes out the aft end of the tank, then there is a vent tube running up forward. I've had to gut a tank before, and that's how it was. If there wasn't, the tank would barf all the time. Keep the nose up during storage always, which keeps any water going the right direction if you are outdoors as well.

Saw you hauling ass eastbound passing the Alsip watertower yesterday! I had dropped my boat off in NW Indiana and was heading out to my Dad's house in Geneva.

More than likely when the boat was painted the vent was not removed. The gas expanded out of the vent and seeped in behind and lifted the paint. I have seen two boats that has happened to. The alochol in gas in nasty. When you repaint have them pull the vent off first.

Happened to me twice this summer in my metal storage building. About 100 degrees inside the storage and gas was pouring from the vent down the side of the boat. I have an '05 353 Formula. They use imron paint....luckily no paint damage!

Dropped the boat off at Mitcher T last night... We went over every detail and then some. Low the no BS approach Mitch has unlike others in the industry... looking forward to the results!

Lot of good tips/ comments here. I too spoke with Mitch for almost an hour a couple of days ago arranging his visit. He gave the entire history of paint (Imrom ,PPG, clearcoat, poly acrylic etc..) more info than I could possibly retain. he did say with certainty.
ABSOLUTELY NO PAINT (IMROM clear or otherwise) will resist gasoline if left on a paint finish for 1/2 hour or more period end of story and he is the undisputed expert in painting!

Here is a pic of mine.
