anyone know of a affordable way to ship a pair of engines? i have had one shipped before but they are quoting my buddy 3 times higher than i paid a few years back. the pair of engines are on pallets and have a fork lift available for loading and a loading dock for drop off. houston 77520 to omaha ne 68117

everytime i shipped things by truck, the way they classified it made all the difference in the world... for instance... a dirty engine on a pallet was a lot more money than a dry motor in a crate presumeably because the can stack things on the crate... all i'm saying is having a detailed conversation with the dispatcher as to what class the shipment is designated will make a HUGE difference sometimes

I used Roadway a few years ago for an engine on a pallet from CA to MI. I want to say it was around $600-700 but I'm not positive. I'll see if I can find the receipt.

would about the people who bid on hauling stuff all over the us ,find a private contractor.

maybe i am way off. i had a 454 long block shipped to me from pennsylvania if i remember right to omaha nebraska maybe 3 1/2 years ago and it was around 225. i remember soemthing about the class of the goods being a factor

Log onto Freightcenter.com I ship large palletized items every week including engines. They have the best rates by far. If you don't mind picking up at a terminal near you, you can save even more. All you do is plug in your weight and dimensions and they will give you several choices of trucking companies.

I found my quote and it was $412 but I underestimated the weight and had to pay more when it arrived. I think I paid another $150 or so but can't remember for sure. I did learn how much a fully dressed big block actually weighs!

YRC has been great, and charged only about $450 Illinois - Oregon. They did one in only two days! You're right about the weights. Mine dressed with blower, accessories, offshore mounts, bellhousing & starter, no transmission and no headers was about 1400 lb with the crate and a small steel frame to bolt the mounts to.

Yep, I guessed 800 lbs and when I showed up to pick it up they said it was 1200 lbs! I said well I guessed but I can't imagine it weighs 1200 lbs. He was really cool about it and loaded it on the forklift and took it to a steel company two doors down to use the scale. Sure enough, 1200 lbs!
