Oil Temperature
Trying to decide best location for sender.
Many say in the pan.
If the oil path is from the pan thru the pump out the remote block to the remote oil filter to the cooler then back into the block then why would the temp at the remote oil filter be any different than in the pan other the small amount of cooling that might take place in the hose to the remote filter since it goes from the pan directly there.
At that location , the extra 3/8 npt on the remote oil filter, I am seeing about 215 at low cruise ( 3000) 235 at fast cruise ( 4000) and 240 to 250 on a hard run (5000 ) depending on lake water temp but drops back quickly when I drop to cruise rpm's. My thinking is this is the hottest place to measure the oil and so i see the hottest temp the oil ever sees. Are these fairly normal ?
The oil runs pretty cool after extended idleing 180's as I have a mile or 2 from the lake to the dock.
Engine is midly modified ( about 450 hp) 502 mag with the older oil cooler, non thermostat.

Those temps don't sound out of the norm. I wouldn't run to long at 240 though. Are you running synthetic or fossil oil??
I also get my oil temp at the remote filter. Seems like the logical place to me, same oil temp as in the pan was my theory too.

Those temps are identical to mine on the 2 new 454s I am breaking in. Using 30wgt dino now. Will switch to 15-50 after 3 more hours. I only get worried when I start seeing 260 or so.
My senders are in the remote bracket as well.

I'm currently running Valvoline Synthetic 20-50. Never see more than 235 on the gauge. 454, .060 over, 8.75:1 compression, about 425 hp or so.
