Been working on my full Hyd steering upgrade for a while now...now out of the blue this thing started feeling terrible, very twicthy, will turn on it's own at slow speeds to either side, feels very unstable ? complete hardin set-up, their special P/S pump, correct GM no foaming fluid...only thing we had done was to loosen mounting bolts at helm to gain access to gauge wiring, unreal close on a 253 checmate. did not loosen any lines, can helm be on a slight bind ?? also does anybody make a way to space helm assembly further away from column to gain some clearance to back of dash ?, thanks for any help...this is getting old !!

If you grab the outdrive and try to force it left and right does it move? It should not move at all. The cylinders should not compress or extend one bit. If they do you may have air in the system. If not, I'm not sure where to look next. Good luck.

Ok, figured it out, the column mounts from outside of dash, helm from backside, dash in this boat not flat and cannot get it flat, so when I tighten the 4 bolts, it can bind the two a little, steering goes crazy...anybody know of a column that mounts to char-lynn helm and then goes thru dash that can also be spaced back from dash some...hoses run right into 2 gauges and switches that cannot be moved ? looks like latham may mount that way ? thanks Rob
