Those are the Manley Extreme Duty/Marine exhaust valves that you need. They are 0.100" longer then stock. As for the intakes, you can use the Severe Duty valves. Their catalog is on line at Manleyperformance.com Click on the 2002 catalog and go to page 23.

Craig thanks the new merlins oval port heads came in and they are using the the manley 2.25 severe duty which is a great but I have to change out the exhaust because they are severe duty to so I ordered the extream and they do not say extream inconel on the box they just say extream, and they are .100" longer on both and are the 11/32 . Thanks I will try on line today. James

Default Manely Valves

FloridianSon,

To answer your question, I resently spoke
with a metal allergist. Anyway's I was talking
to him about inconel valves and he started laughing
at me.

Appartenly alot of us are misled that Inconel is a
metal. It isn't, according to him if you do your
research it is a process.

I haven't done my research so I'm just passing
hear say.

Inconel is a blend of certain metals together that originally was made for airplane engines. This same metal cannot be used at the tip, that is why they are welded together.

Powerboat had an article on Inconel valves I want to say around April 2001. I will look to see if I still have it and post some quotes.

Well don't matter much now just finished up with the spring hight, lapping the valves in and all the valves are back in and the heads are ready to be put on Sunday.Went to manley sight and found the only way you get Inconel material in your valves is if you are running the #11587-8 1.88 stock lenght and the 3/8.They are made of XH 430 Inconel material all the rest are XH 432 xtreamealloy material. With the EX valves, use ONLY their Inconel EXTREME. Anything less will lunch your motor. I was stupid enough to listen to my "street rod" guy and went through it twice (very expensive) before I learned that hi-R's for the short term and beating the motors like we do for minutes at at time in the marine application is a whole different ballgame. the Manley "Severe's" are fine for the intakes. If you check out what Teague uses in his stuff (and he does guarantee) you will find that even his 1000 hp units use this combo. Merc. does too on all their hp stuff but it's their part #'s cause they don't want you getting the base price from Manley. Build smart-not cheap!! --- Jer

Good news I talked to manley and they said that the valves I ordered and installed were xtream inconel(the box did not say) and that there web sight is changeing.Better news they said they have a valve that is better than inconel XH 432 extreamealloy ?Well if it is true then when I do the valves again I will look into it.Even better news think I should have the motor in by this weekend. Great news I did not build a high reving high compression motor!
