Engine sync gauge or?????
I am in the process of replacing the dash in my scarab and I have a VDO engine sync gauge. It is the large cut out 3 1/2" or so and it is between the tachs.
First, is there anywhere to get a replacement for this? Second, if not what to put in it's place???? I already have the tachs and gps speedo, the sync gauge is ugly as all hell so I do not want to keep it but I can't seem to find one, or have any ideas of what to replace it with. |
A g-force meter lol......how about onr of those multi gauges for dual water pressure and engine oil temp??
|
Hmmm....that could be a possibility. What to do with the oil temp gauges then?
|
Has nobody else had this issue?

Keep it. There are replacements out there. The sync gauge is much more accurate for syncing your motors then looking at your tachs. The sync gauge is a direct differential between the RPM signals from your motors, and not an interpretation of them.

So where can you get a replacement? I am not even considering keeping this old beat up thing I have now!

I have a sync gauge too. I was thinking of installing the larger 5 inch gauges to replace the tachs and speedo...haven't checked to see if they will fit yet. Of course the 5 inch gauges mean a new pdash panel...ugh

Put a clock in. If you can't sync by sound go back to a single...
No offence to you personally. Just a general statement... |

No offence to you personally. Just a general statement... I didn't know if gaffrig/livorsi/auto meter made on that I could get. A 3 3/8" clock would be stupid, I don't like the idea of a blank, I will figure something out I guess. |
Powerplay is right---The sync.gauges were notorious for going bad about about 1 to 3 years old and usually screwed the tachs up too...... Take the sync. out and throw it in the can, then think about replacing the old tachs because they might be screwed up also ---Auto meter is the best bet for those.
As far as filling the hole think about a round depth sounder... You might have to look around for the right size but they can be had ----also look in the sail boat gauges - those jerks never got past round!!!! Good luck Jim |

How about a set of warning lights. I think livorse has a blank and one with lights too.. Hook it up to oil and temp alarms for both engines.

You probably don't want to see it but I would like to do a fuel flow gauge. :evilb:

Greatlakesskipper on eBay sells blanks for about 20 to 30 bucks. Get one to match your others and mount a couple of bright warning lights in it. They are handy when a alarm goes off and you know what gauge to look at first. Worked good for me.
