i don't think a speed scoop is a good idea. are you ever running the dockside 110 volt AC while underway? didn't think so. meanwhile at speed you are building quite a bit of pressure with the scoop and it has nowhere to go.

I`d shut the valve of at the transom everytime after use and never had an issue with prime.

No scoop, just a transom pickup
