Default 496 ecm help

Hey guys, I'm in need of replacing the old 454's in my bertram and would like to go with the newer 496's. I stumbled across these on ebay and need your advice.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/221156306968...84.m1438.l2649

I spoke to the company and they are a large marine rebuilder/machine shop and they said they can basically make anything they want for me.

They said the motor has everything on it except for the computer. The harness, sensors, coil packs, injectors, everything is there.

The problem is, I don't know even how to start looking for a computer for this thing. My quick search shows that they are very specific to the motor.

I plan to call them back tonight by 8pm est before they close with a list of questions.

I would really like to make this block work and i'm not worried about fitment, transmission, mounting, accessories, etc. Really the only problem I have at the moment is the ecm/pcm/computer or whatever it's called.

What questions do I need to ask about the motor to be able to purchase the correct computer for it? It looks like it has an electronic throttle but I'll find out. I also need to find out if this is concidered the 'base' model 496 or what? I'm sure that matters in the search.

Thanks guys so much, I'm really excited about this.

There is a product used in marine called mefi below is a link with some detail's.
http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/MEFI/

You will need to cal this vendor back and ask if the product has been wired for mefi or merc's 555 system. Merc's 555 systme is not yet reprogramable you would have to buy from the factory..(expensive)

The mefi is programable and can be installed fairly cheap by marine std's below is a link for the ecu and harness..you would need two

http://www.crateenginedepot.com/Modu...16-P10031.aspx

And the people who program the ecu..id give them a call and find someone who knows how to install that type of system.

This guy is really good with the MEFI's but it is likely you have the PCM555. Try here http://www.mefituning.com I have utilized their MEFI 4 conversions and been very happy with it. You will find them to be listed on the Crate Engine Depot web site.
