Having trouble finding one. If we can find one we wont have to disassemble the whole engine and deck the block.

Bore size is 30 over, alum heads closed cooling, its a car engine. As per engine builder its to get the quench where he wants it. A combo of a stock deck height and aftermarket pistons means the pistons dont come all the way up to the top.

Why didn't the "engine builder" zero deck the block? Standard decks are notoriously out of square and generally taller than spec. Finding ultra thin head gaskets is a bandaid that usually isn't the best solution for a marine engine.

As stated above its a car engine, I bought it off a guy fully assembled a long time ago to put in a truck which I ended up selling and now its just sitting around my shop. Had the engine builder look it over. he said its ok but it would be nice to get the deck height where it needs to be without completely dissembling (and reassembling ) the whole engine just to deck the block.
Im using it for a "starter" engine for my race car so I want to keep the cost down. We got our eye on a pump gas combo that makes 420 hp/525ft lbs, run that for a couple of yrs before stepping up to something faster like a Nascar Busch motor or something in the 6 to 700 range. Heres a pic of it from a couple yrs back it has 80s Vette alum heads (not great but would have been fine for a truck) which we'll probably change maybe to Vortecs or something alum to save 40lbs.

Thats exactly what I may end up doing but the engine builder said it could leave 30 or 40hp on the table if the quench isnt right. There are several thin gaskets avail for the 350 but nothing for the 400 that we can find so far. be nice to solve it.
