oil filter
I have been using Wix 51060R racing filter and i'm not sure if it has a anti drain back valve so I was considering on using the Mercruiser racing oil filter..
Does anyone know if these have a anti drain back valve installed? or which filter do you recommend. I'm running Amsoil 20-50 w Z rod oil full synthetic
Thanks

I use the Amsoil EA024 filter - it def has good anti-drainback valve. Keep in mind that the anti drainback valve is designed to prevent unfiltered oil from draining back into the crankcase. With the newer style upside down filters, I tend to wait 10-15 minutes after shutdown to remove the filter, so that the hot oil will filter and drain back. This way you are only left with a small amount of spillage, rather than a huge amount if you take it off right away.

I used to have upside down filters on my 2003 Baja.. They were a pain to change the filters. I used to pop a hole in the top of the filter to break the vacuum so my oil pump could suck the oil out. Made less of a mess that way. I was told that the anti drain back valve was to prevent the oil in the filter to drain back to the crankcase when engine was off .. This way it would prevent dry start ups.

Please note that racing filters flow more because they filter less. I re-plumbed mine so it is upright and I can now use the 2qt Donaldson P550832.

No doubt, I think everybody gets tied up on the flow aspect when it probably isn't needed on a stock motor. But they let larger particles through.
