Default engine hours

im looking at a cruiser that is for sale,it seems to be in decent shape but the engines have 3600 hours, they are crusader 454s,350 hp version, that seems like a lot of hours to me so im thinking that engine rebuilding will be needed in the near future.im looking for input from you guys who have cruisers, what do you think?

That is a lot of hours regardless of any factor. Even if they were diesels.

not 1800 a side,3600 on each engine,i think i am going to pass on this one unless the price goes way down.if i can get it cheep enough i will run it this summer and rebuild them during the winter.

I'd suspect theyve been rebuilt at least 1 time. Maybe if you are motivated enough you can do a compression test on them.

With that many hours, deduct cost of rebuilds from sell price.Unless the owner of boat and your testing proves the motors to be rebuilt/replaced. JMO

Seems to me that motors in a big cruiser can get run just as hard as on a lighter performance boat - maybe more so. Even a leakdown / compression check and oil pressure doesn't necessarily tell you if the valvesprings are getting fatigued from all those hours. 3600 hours on a BBC is a LOT of hours. He must have been pretty meticulous on his maintenance to get that many and still have them running decently.
