Propping a Modified 98' 24 outlaw
Has Tyler Crockett Motor about 500 hp 454. Right now the tac isn't working I am running a 25p Plain mirage. Wondering what else I should try. MSD Rev limiter is set at 5400rpm and I have only hit it on take off once or twice. Any Idea's?

First get the tac working...then supply a prop guy your current data and what you want....have him send you a FEW props to test....joel at hill is a cool cat to work with...
or Audacity racing will dial it in for you and supply with custom props...cam timing, and other factors are very important in prop selection.

1. Get tach fixed
2. Find,borrow, or buy a GPS unit
3. Take boat out and record max rpm and speed.
4. Report your findings here on the board.
5. We will then help you get dialed in.
P.S. You should NOT be hitting redline when you are starting to take off (getting boat on plane). This is caused by too much prop slip which is bad.
Get us the above info so we can help you out.
I have a 95 making 525 hp and I run a Bravo 1 26" and see 72-74 mph at 5000 rpm on my GPS.

First things first.
Get a new tach and an accurate way to measure speeds. Then try a lot of props. Try some that lug the motor down and others that let it sing a few more RPM. Check speeds at cruising RPM and at WOT. If you boat on a small lake like I do mid range acceleration may be more important than top speed. Keep in mind that you have to be in control of the boat in order to really use the speed potential each prop has. A couple of mph isn't worth the wear and tear on the drive, steering, and gimble ring if it chine walks like crazy, which happens frequently with this type of boat. I tried many props on my Baja 210 before I decided on a winner. I used Spinelli, who unfortunately is now out of business. I had some props that were horrible and others that were fast, but undriveable. The one I have now is awsome!! At an 80 MPH cruise the boat is rock solid and a 97.8 MPH GPS top end is icing on the cake with no chine walking. Even at that I am still trying some new props. I tried 6 different Spinellis before I got the one I have now!! Those guys were awesome to work with. Good luck!!!

I had a 1994 with about 480 HP. My favorite overall props were either a 23" Mirage PLUS or a 23" Hydromotive 4 blade. As I recall, the engine would turn about 5,300 - 5,350 RPM.
I also ran a plain 25" Mirage which had the best top end by 1 MPH but was inferior in ever other way. I didn't care for the 24" Bravo.
