Luckily my motor builder is a Gibbs dealer and calls me when he has an order going in. 2 sets of changes for me in the boat and cars equates to 120 qts/year. I would run the Gibbs xp line but these oils are the "race day" oils and do not fair up well to sitting which obviously they do a lot of in comparison to run times. The v twin and hot rod oils do just that while getting as close to the race type as possible as per data and oil analysis. The v twin can be ordered thru most auto parts stores and received within a day if not that day. -Chris

Makes sense to me...same reason I run the Mobil 1 V Twin. Ton of zinc and phosphorous. Additives to help against moisture. Formulated for higher heat.

Amsoil is indeed good oil. I run the Mobil because it is readily available at any auto parts store.

Yeah, that is what the tech support would say. However, the Dominator Racing Oil has more zinc and phos in it than the Zrod. The Zrod however, does have a rust and corrosion inhibitor package that is a bit stronger than the Dominator. The Dominator is the best choice, period!

IMO, based on research mostly on OSO, the best high preformance oil value is the Mobile V-Twin. it s now less than $10 qt. Listen to OSO's Minxguy...he is in the oil business and knows his stuff.

Joe Gibbs oil in my race cars, Kendall 20w-50 in the boat motors, one of the few over the counter oils that still contains Zinc. Wix black racing filters for me.

Not according to Amsoil tech. I wrote to them and said I run my boat engines at 3500-4000 or more all day and I have flat tappet cams.. They said stay with the Zrod oil.

BenPerfected, thanks.

Wet clutch rated oil will not hurt your boat engine. The additive that is not in motorcycle oil is a friction modifier used to make the oil more energy efficient.

In some cases this particular additive has been show to cause slippage in motorcycles.

Motorcycle oil in no way will have a negative effect on an engine, after all, in Japanese bikes, the oil that lubricates the clutch also lubricates the engine and these motorcycle engines put out a lot more horse power per CC than your boat and there are no engine failures because of this additive missing.

So what is the concensus on the Amsoil:
1. Dominator 15W-50
2. Z-rod 20/50
3. ARO 20/50

Or Mobil:
1. V-twin 20/50
2. 15/50

Thanks.

I run Rotella 15-40 in everything I own from the 2500 HD w/8.1 to the boat w/502 and a myriad of big and small block Olds in various cars....
But as stated, there are as many different opinions as there are oil brands.

And if you want even a better AMSOIL product, use the Dominator Racing 15w50.

The AMSOIL 20W-50 that you have been running is an excellent oil and there is no need to change to the AMSOIL Dominator racing oils. The AMSOIL Dominator racing oils are designed for racing only and do not carry any API or OEM oil specifications. The WIX racing filter 51061R is an excellent filter for the high RPM’s you are running.
