Strainer cover won`t come off, wtf
Is there a trick I`m missing? Ive been fighting to get this cover off for half an hour, I`m at the point of hitting the damn thing with a hammer! Largest pair of Chanell Locks I got and yanking it for 20 minutes and it won`t budge!
Under the large Allen nut theres a spring with a white ball seated on top of the cover almost like a pressure relief.... not sure what thats about either ... http://33outlaw.zenfolio.com/img/s8/...47931586-4.jpg |
Betcha an air chisel would work. Or a... :greenchainsaw:

I had to walk away cause that or my .45 was gonna be next

Mine get stuck on sometimes. I have no idea what causes it. Mine are different and I have a puck tool and use a pipe for leverage. What a pain in the ass...

Looks like a tight area too. Good luck.

I`m trying to rock it and pull up at the same time... no room to turn it sideways

dan i believe you have to loosen the allen to realease the suction if the strainer is full of water..
|
Yeah I tried that too , no worky

some of the stainless marine cover designs didn't fit so good. Use a thin screwdriver and gently pry it up. To fix you will need to machine a little off the ID of the cover. Another buddy had the same problem, I'll find out how much he took off.

OK Scratch what I said. You need to put ice on the cover to shrink it, then use a bunch of putty knives to evenly work the cover up til its off. If it gets a little crooked it will jam. There are two problems. One there is probably a little corrosion on the ID of the aluminum housing that is binding up the cover and two the staight cut ID of the cover is too big and needs to be machined down around .050 inches (diameter). Don't machine the bevel surface only the straight section that fits down in the strainer body.
