Help removing prop with unknown prop lock
Hello all... well it's time I take my prop off and I have no idea what kind of lock, etc. was used. (I bought it as is)
How do I remove the prop? This doesn't look like a McGard prop lock does it? Any help would be appreciated! http://img845.imageshack.us/img845/6439/tvzq.jpg |
Looks like a McGard to me.

You could also try jb welding the inner to the outer and twist it off

How wide is it, I'm thinking maybe a wheel lock remover?

Thanks for the suggestions guys... I'm gonna try a few things and see what happens!

can you contact the owner before you?

I've had luck using a socket of the appropriate size and grind it down to leave a couple of tabs that will engage the prop lock recesses(basically making a lock key). Usually all you need is a couple of tabs to be able to get it loose.

Cut notches a 1/4" down on opposite sides of the outside part, then use a hammer and chisel to split it

If you have a large marine facility near you, they probably have all the McGuard keys. They've been down this road before.
If you have a little bit clearer picture of it, you can send it McGuard and they can send you a key. I like the JB Weld trick, never heard of that one. A coupe of long cuts down the outside of it, and it should split open like a taco. |
