Sorry thought it had the same setup as an hp 500, which by that picture it is not.

Hi all,
I can't locate the oil temperature sensor on the block. Any ideas where it is? |
It should be right above the filter pad on the block. Mine is in a t-fitting with the oil pressure sender for the gauge.
Also, I had an oil filter bypass valve get stuck partially open. It is pressed into the block above where the filter would mount to the engine. Because it was slightly open, it would let some oil bypass the oil cooler and filter. I ended up pulling the engine to find it. It also made my oil much darker faster, so see if you have the same issue that way. |
There is 2 sensors above where the filter would go originally on the block, the oil pressure sensor and the alarm sensor. These motors should be all the same no?? Its in a 2001 Fountain 29. We can't locate it at all. There is no sensor on the remote filter mount either. Where else could it be?

Oil temp sender is not a Merc factory installed sender on a 500EFI. Not sure where Fountain would have installed it.

This is what I found on the schematic and this is how it is on my engine : number 17.... 500 EFI Mercury Racing Sterndrive 0M905089 THRU 0M907127 Oil Cooler And Oil Filter(Engine) Diagram and Parts
seems to me that it is in the housing where the oil filter would be on a stock block |
Ok, we found the problem. The oil thermostat is not opening when inside the casing. We tried it while it was in and nothing moved and we pulled it out and it opened up. This is also a brand new thermostat kit that I put in last year. It seems that it might bite inside the casing and can't open. Can I just remove it completely? Will the oil still go through the filter if I do? Otherwise i might have to buy a new filter relocator housing. First option would be a quick fix for the rest of the summer...
