prochargers and boost

you guys with prochargers, what size engine do you have, which procharger unit are you running and how much boost are you making?im mainly wanting responses from pump gas users.

502mag mpi
M-3 Procharger
5 1/2psi with 4 1/2 pulley and 30 pitch prop.

572
M-4 Procharger

MEFI

tcnomoney 09-15-2013 06:04 PM

what horsepower does your 572 make

Griswald 09-15-2013 06:05 PM

509 MPI, M1, 5-6lbs

articfriends 09-15-2013 06:51 PM

540 w m-3 sc, with 3.85 pulley I dynoed at 12-13 lbs of boost on 92/93 octane pump gas (1057 hp), run 14 lbs with 20% race gas with 3.70 pulley (1115 hp). With these smaller pulleys it makes boost EARLY and FAST too if you lean on it anywhere above 3000-3200. It also made about 10-11 psi with 4.00 pulley and just over 1000 hp, Smitty

mike tkach 09-15-2013 07:02 PM

smitty, what would you concider maximum boost with 93 pump gas?

IF a Prochargerd marine motor has EFI, afr's verified/tuned on water at wot, aluminum heads and compression close to or around 8-1 along with 75-80 MAX degree lake water for innercooler 12-13 lbs is easily reliable, I have ran that kinda boost for quite a while and haven't hurt a motor yet, Smitty

mike tkach 09-15-2013 07:32 PM

12 or 13 is what i was thinking,that is what i run with my 8.3L whippled 588s.

Turbojack 09-15-2013 08:09 PM

Had, 540, M4, 10 lbs, fast efi, Boat was sold from person I sold it to. He or I did not have any motor problems.

And what kind of HP do they make ?

mike tkach 09-15-2013 09:01 PM

1200 when dyno,d on a 40 ded day 1170 last month 93 deg 90 % humidity 11.6 afr.

ezstriper 09-16-2013 09:30 AM

500HP, M3, custom EFI, 6psi

And what exhaust are the M3 guys using !!!!???

Smitty...lets say you were cruisen and the tach was at 5k ands 12 lbs of boost with 93 octane fuel,,would you think the intercooler would be able to sustain a cool temperature with out causing detonation?

heads are dart 355 cnc cam is hyd roller,i cant remember the specs on duration, lift is around .650,the cams are not off the shelf peices.the hp numbers i posted were at 6000 rpm,as we took it to 7000 numbers went up but im proping for 6000 to 6200 rpm so 7000 rpm numbers dont matter.

Scarab28 09-16-2013 05:56 PM

540
M3
7 lbs
dyno 900 hp

imaiden 09-16-2013 06:39 PM

I have a 31 SonicSS 1990 I know its older but its fun..468 cu,Chevys.I have the smallest M1SCs they make 9 psi of boost and on the dyno about 700 hp at 5700 RPM..Also single plane intake and Merlin Square port heads,With full roller cam and roller lifters..You will also want heavy duty connecting rods..These work well for this boat you could not possibly put anything bigger under the hatch because of space..

MILD THUNDER 09-16-2013 06:49 PM

Smitty, CNC, What are you higher boost guys running for plugs? Heat range wise.

Also, what is your target AFR at wot?

Those whippled 588's coupled to the SSM 6 dry sumps, really put ya in your seat! I can tell ya that first hand.

GPM 09-16-2013 07:59 PM

I'm sure

When I had the procharger intercooler I would run with the fast data logger going. At 10 lbs of boost and at least 88 degree lake water the intake temp keep going up the longer I stayed in it. Most I stayed in it was maybe couple of minutes since I would run out of room before I had to back down. I remember seeing it go up to 150 degree temps.

do you think the cooler core was getting heat soaked?

Black Baja 09-17-2013 06:07 AM

540 gm heads 9.5:1 9lbs 865hp cam change 7lbs 900hp. @ 9lbs it was pulling timing. That was with m3sc intercooled. If I can get the money together for a decent drive ill let you know what a brodix bb2xtra hand ported head 598 will do on about 15lbs. Till then it's gonna be a n/a motor :-(

With the right cam, intake and headers about 1400.

Yeah that's what I built it for but spent all my money on the motor and no sense in destroying an xr. So it's just gonna have to wait.

NO WAY! Those intercoolers are magical! You can run 40psi on 87 octane if you have one!

ICDEDPPL 09-17-2013 06:49 PM

Its the river.. if it was ran on the lake all would be fine.. the river is a jinx!!!

yep,and the lake water is colder.

GPM 09-17-2013 07:55 PM

The M5 cooler might work a little better than the 4.

+1!!! and you have to feed the intercooler off the water crossover that is mounted to the engine which also goes through a oil cooler b4 it even hits the engine....this wat you have all your base's covered lol..no need to lwp's this way and no starving the cooler of water either..

Wow!!!! Where you been hiding!!!! Someone told me you've moved on from the go fasts and are working part time at bass pro shops in the rigging dept? Lol

Craig , what's your thought on a projected tip -8 plug with 15psi?

I won't run a projected tip plug on anything with a power adder.

WETTE VETTE 09-17-2013 09:17 PM

And yes I have slowed down temporarly. The Kings like a 2.5-3.2 troll so thats were I'm at. Still plenty of motors to tune and friends to give me a ride from time to time.
