Decided to switch to electric fuel pumps in my 390x. Would like to see some pics of other guy's mounting setups. Any advice would also be appreciated. Anyone running electric pump outputs through their mechanical pumps? Leaning towards the Holley blue marine pumps regulated to 5psi. Thoughts?

Why are you going electric and what motors do you have

Bad idea in my opinion. Merc used mechanical pumps on the 900's

The engines are stock 420s. Previous owner installed a generic inline electric pump on one motor but the other one is still running mechanical. The motor with the electric pump starts right up. The one still running mechanical takes forever to prime. I'm sure part of that is worn out mechanical pump, but since the other one is already electric I figured I'd just upgrade the existing one that's already there and add a 2nd one for the other engine at the same time. I'm sure mechanical can deliver plenty of fuel. Either way I'm looking at buying two pumps. Just looking at quicker/easier starts.

Quicker easier starts are not related to your fuel pumps per say. Probably the reason the engine with the electric pump starts quicker is it pumps fuel into the bowl quicker. I would look at why your bowls are evaporating

So if the gas evaporates in the carb when sitting it is not normal? I just assumed it was. My holly carbs always started instantly, but my rochesters took forever to prime.

Rochesters are known for leaking from the jet wells. It's a common problem on them. The jet wells just use a peened in plug. Over time they loosen up and a common symptom is hard starting AND black smoke when it does start. The jet wells leak fuel into the manifold.

Thoughts... Stay away from Holley blue pumps.

Please elaborate on why to stay away from blue pumps? I just picked up two used blue 800 holley pumps for my 454 mags.

Use the Mallory Marine pump it's designed for more lift. Most electrics are designed for automotive and need to be mounted below the tank. You want to keep your pump out of the bilge and the Mallory was designed with more lift so it can suck the gas up the line better than others.
