Default Gimble ring repair

Called JR Marine today and got a message that they will be closed until mid March.
Anyone else out there do gimble ring repairs?
Need swivel pin hole and shoe surface repaired.

Take it to a local machine shop explain what you need and they should be able to repair it for you.

I'd prefer sending it to someone that has lots of experience doing this particular repair.

I just got a pair of them back a couple weeks ago. Both the upper swivel shaft and the wear plate were fixed. This is something the local machine shop could not do. The wear pads have to be perfect. Build the area up too much and the outdrive will not go back on, too little defeats the purpose. It only took a couple days for both of mine to be fixed. Ron even painted them... I would wait.

That's what I'd be afraid of. Only someone experienced with this repair would know the proper tolerances.
Surprised to hear he painted them too. His website states owner would be responsible for paint. Gotta ask abt that.

Got mine repaired at the local machine shop. Anyone that knows what they are doing with a bridgeport could fix a gimbal ring. Even repaired my gimbal housing which JR Marine said could not be done...

That's true. But JR more than likely has the fixtures, and possibly always setup and ready to make chips. Whereas a machine shop would start off at square one.
