Default HP500 Valve spring change....

I'm changing the springs next week on my engines and was curious how you check/shim for proper spring height with the heads still on the engine....I could probably figure it out but I'm sure someone knows an easier way.... They only have 120 hrs so I don't want to remove the heads. If I did that it would be a slippery slope...

I take a outside mic, cut a piece of rod(coat hanger etc) and grind to installed height I'm looking for, then with air in cyl ck/shim with just retainer and keepers in place...Rob

Just did mine also. Summit has the spring height micrometers and valve spring compressors the proform compressor works good for under 50 bucks, makes life a lot easier.
