Default What the hell's a 6.2???

Oh .. merc motors are based on GM motors. There is , 4.3 5.0 5.7 6.0 7.4 8.1 and 8.2's There is a 377 scorpion but what the hell is a 6.2??

The 377 is a stroked 350 that puts out, right at 400 hp

So merc built a non standard motor ?? I understand the scorpion motor , a cool lil beast it is. But Icant figure out why the 6.2 exists when there is a 6.0 available.

For $150 stroked crank they pump up the mid range TQ. Probably add 8% more TQ. Pretty cheap and smart. Remember boats like midrange TQ.

this is the 1st ive heard of merc using a nonstandard gm motor for a nonracing motor.

The 6.0 motor is the new LS1 series. Merc is not using this series of engines and is basing their motors off the old 350 small block platform. The 6.2 is the 350 with a 400 crank in it. And no, you can't get the 400 any more-it was discontinued in the 70's.


I believe that merc is getting the high performance blue blocks/parts from GM Performance. GMP bought the dies from GM (their parenet company). I believe that GMP is offering a 383 and it may be the base motor for the 6.2.
