Bravo 3 tilt switch R&R

I have troubleshoot that my bravo tilt switch is not working. The gauge switch is fine but the drive will not go up with the up button. I have to use the trailer button.

I see according to the documentation that the drive has to be removed to change out the switch. Also, I see that the puck comes apart and you can access the wires in the puck. Can't I just unscrew the puck screw in the into the new puck and adjust as needed?

2nd option
I can see the bolt that is holding the 2 half moon pieces of the wire with the drive down and turned to the starboard side. On the inside I see where the wires are coming in the transom. Can't I just remove the bolt and replace the switches as needed, adjust each puck and be done?

Is there any disadvantage in doing it this way?

The "correct" way to do it is to remove the drive to gain access to the wires where they run through the transom. You can however cut and splice the wires. Use some some butt connectors with the shrink built in and you will be fine. Dont take them apart. Once you replace it, adjust it so you get six inches of travel and that should get you in the ball park.

Thanks Katanna.

But should even attempt to run the cables though the hole the correct way without cutting? I see the bolt and it looks do able or is there other hidden issues?

sometimes you can remove the puck,,clean it and keep turning it round and round several times to clean the internal contacts..i think its a dumb design..if you really want to get it working you can bypass it..follow the wires out of the transm housing that go to the trim pump..once you find the lead's which are male and female bullett connectors all you have to do is unplug them and plug the male and female at the pump together to see if it works..might be the solenoids st the pump that are bad but most likely the puck..

Btw bypassing this will allow the drive to be trimed like the trailer button..so keep a eye on your trim gauge..

Yea I bypassed the switch and it works fine
So I know it's either the puck or the wires

Is it ok to remove the 4 screws on the face of the puck? Can I clean the contacts behind the cover?

if you can get it apart then yes and be careful cleaning the inside of the puck,,then coat it with some snowplow die electric grease..i use snowplow grease because it has corrosion pritection.. http://www.russopower.com/products/w...-grease-49326/
