New water pump done. Problems?
I replaced the original 3 piece plastic pump with two steel wear plates on my '96 Mag with a new 2 piece plastic with one steel wear plate. It failed, I had to. My question is, is this new style pump more trouble down the road?
I got 10 years/300 hours out of my last impeller with the 3 piece.
Thanks

10 years without replacing the impeller? that has got to be a record. I replace mine at least once a year.. If for any reason I have the pump off I replace it even if I just put one in 3 weeks ago. All I can say is wow you were lucky

My 1979 Pre-Alpha one impeller lasted over 20 years and over 2000 hours until i replaced it. It did not fail either, just set so temp started wandering. Things built far better back then I guess. It was much beefier than the ones I buy today.

A friend of mine changed his 496 impeller after 5 years because he was bored more or less. He said it looked fine. WTF if I don't change my stuff twice as often as recommend it seems to break.

Like anything it depends on how you treat em. I see so many people reving their engine in an attempt to get onto the trailer and kicking up clouds of dirt and sand. Guess where that goes.
Or driving up onto the beach, same thing.
That's a guy changing an impeller or housing every year.
