Default Removing compass

So today I tried to remove my compass. I started to remove the screws in the trim ring and the compass started leaking the fluid out. Apparently there is a seal between the wood and ring. The screws that hold it to the dash are under the ring. I'm stuck and need some direction.
Thanks

When I took out my compass it was a solid unit. Now, having said that, I took it out because the fluid had leaked out and just the card was floating in fluid. I sent it off, had it repaired, came back as a solid unit and just bolted it in. Unless yours is different, I imagine the globe is cracked at the flange (that's where mine was) and when you released the ring it leaked out. Hope that was of some help!
