My 525efi wil go up to 195ish, then the t-stat opens and it goes back to 155ish.

I can't believe it has not blown up yet ! Your running liquid Ice in your crankcase !!!! I recommend removing your oil cooler and chopping a couple fins off your impellers

I'm pretty sure the 525 manual says that the oil temp should be below 220. The motor has almost 250 hours on it, runs great, oil looks fine.

BTW, I'm getting my numbers from Smartcraft, if that matters.

I was just being a wise azz . But yes , I also belive the smart craft buzzer will sound at 220 on the 525?

my high temp light comes on when my oil hits 250 witch it did this past weekend running the four hoarsman on lk winnabaggo this past weekend . freaked me the hell out . was on 25 mile run to first stop at 4 to 5 k average . I was disappointed my Teague coolers didn't keep oil temp down .. 17 pd of water pressure too . just when I was getting to some calmer water to lettr eat .anyway 250 light came on for the record .

Are you running a oil t stat or are you running it as Teague recommends (without)?

Hi Rob, didn't realize that was you loading a couple boats be hide me. (I didn't do the run this year) Have you always had 17 PSI of water pressure? Might a flow restriction be starting. That chain has quite a bit of sand. Your boat sounded good. Andy

Good read: google "powerboat nation are you killing your engine and don't even know it"

You are correct about merc racing 525 hp listing the MAX allowable oil temp of 220 degrees. They never listed the reason why..
