Question power steering pump question..

Are GM power steering pumps on boats the same as GM automotive pumps?
I'm trying to troubleshoot my steering system, I have full hydraulic helm with dual rams and I have little to no assist..I don't hear the helm "hissing" when I turn it and little to no power assist..
Thanks in advance.

they are simular, but according to AGR they are built with a bearing instead of a bushing and the pressure is slightly different, you can use a heavy duty truck pump, change the pressure outlet(where pressure hose attaches) and the spring and valve from under to keep pressure the same as original pump(providing it's still the marine one) also ck the filter inline to make sure it's not clogged, and disreguard the use of a ford pump as they are junk and would not hold up at all...
