Its a 1989 celebrity andretti 259.

I know nothing about matching components inside of a motor. I would certainly upgrade the exhaust if I bought the boat.

Just seems odd that the magazines tested the boat when it was new and said a 330 HP motor would push it to 54 mph. I guess in 1989 they would have been using the speedometer instead of GPS though.

Is this the one with white/black striped interior? I mean there are tons of factors as to why the boat isn't running as it should. Hook in the hull? Was it stored on a roller trailer? Or an improperly setup bunk trailer? Is it water logged? Is the prop all chewed up? I had a friend have a kinda mashed up prop and just putting a new good prop on the boat it picked up almost 7mph (that's not the norm but maybe). Does it have the proper fuel pressure. Or is the ignition advancing as it should. Or maybe it has low compression on a cylinder.

I'd think with 425 hp it would run 62-63

Yes that's the boat. Not sure on the condition of the prop. The guy took it out and said the motor spun up to 5700 rpms with a little more to go. He said he didn't want to go any further cause the motor doesn't have many hours on it.

The prop seems kind of light for the motor from what Ihave read. Prop is 14 5/8 23p. I would like to buy the boat, but not sure what's going on with it. I would put a new exhaust and possibly a supercharger on it if needed.

That boat is in NJ I believe, it's been for sale for awhile I think I saw it for sale over a year ago. I mean if he went 50mph at 5700 with a 23p prop that's some insane prop slip, assuming a 1.5 ratio drive which would be the most common with this size boat it's 40 percent slip. I highly doubt he is spinning that many rpm with more to go. 425hp with a 5000 lb boat you're looking at a 23-25 3 blade or a 24 4 blade at probably 5200rpm maybe a hair more with the 23 3 blade.

Something is definitely not adding up based on the information given.

I saw on your other post that you're from Pasadena md. I'm also from there and we are out in the bay every weekend.

345 cc heads are definitely too large for that cam and CID.

My friend has the same boat, 385hp carb 502 MAG. 23 pitch Mirage + 3 blade, runs 58 mph that I have seen in person, he has told me a best of 62 mph on the right day.

I think you are focusing too much on the engine, as mickey said your numbers are way off as far as prop slip. If you can buy it right, and it has no rot or cob jobs go for it. Some little tweaks will get you where you need to be. Inspect the bottom good for repairs on the running surface, maybe something is disturbing the water. Check the gear ratio if possible, maybe he bought a used drive like a bravo 2 and it has a low ratio?

Couldn't agree more. I am going to look at the boat this week. I will be doing a compression check and checking the hull for hook. It is a 1989 rebuilt bravo 1 drive. Not sure on gear ratio yet. I assume it's a 1.5.

I talked to Mikey last night and he is an awesome dude. He is going to lend me a prop to put on for a test ride. I also have a brand new gauge set and will see how easy I can swap in my tach.
