When Florida was requiring inspections, it was done at a Fl State run facility. They only charged a couple bucks and if you failed , no charge for retest. They checked brakes, exhaust, tires, HEADLIGHT AIM,and it wasnt that big a deal or very expensive.

On the 8.2's ,If you showed proof the engine was being used for repower and replacing an older motor, you could purchase with cats removed but keep full warranty.

We (NH) have tough rules on lifted trucks now.

If OBDII monitors pass, a modded vehicle passes. Our machines plug directly into the OBDII port. The VIN and monitors are checked and sent directly to the state.

If your hull is a 2009 and back yes you can get a NON CAT engine thru most OEM marine engine manus. In California its 2007 and back. This is for repowering bellow 500 hp. Merc and Volvo will need your Hull ID (HIN) to make sure about the repower CAT or No CAT. Any marine engine 500 hp and above currently do not mandate a CAT engine.

This all started by CARB (in California) for all model year 2008 engines below 500 hp and by the EPA with the rest of the USA for model year 2010 all marine engines under 500 hp. The 4.3 - 262 CID did have a pass until year 2012 model year because of green carbon credits that the OEM marine engines builders had in the kitty persay. .

Next Malibu boats and Indmar Marine engines started using CATS in the marine engine apps before any mandated was in place. They Indmar and Malibu boats stated catalyst engines for model year 2006. They both had reasons for doing so because of CO poisoning that the wakeboarder and wake surfer was experiencing.

Actually a couple of people died because of CO poisoning from wake surfing and a girl hanging out on the swim platform watching a person wakeboarding over a long period of time.

Malibu and Indmar looked at it as a health, life / death, cleaner air, cleaner water, quit engine running especially behind the boat issues. Hence the reason they did CAT engines before it was mandated. Also they knew the CAT engine was going to be mandated soon in the USA anyways so why not be the first for rec / ski gas engine boats and market the heck out of the safer issues for buying a wakeboard boat and CAT engine package combo..

BUP - I think it's directed at me.

I'm okay with it as a 2002 Chevy 1500 sits next to me. Frame is rotted enough the middle crossmember is over 75% torn away. It's the frame that's ripped, not the crossmember. Just Not enough metal left. Fuel lines are leaking. Cannot remove them from the nylon lines that come from the tank. Corrosion enlarged that part of the metal lines that far.

Looks like the Leaf spring shackles rotted on it a few years ago where the springs broke up thru the bed. We've seen this many times and usually we stop the customer from driving off as they apparently knew about it driving in. You don't NOT notice this driving.

It's Here because it needs an inspection sticker. Not because the owner noticed anything wrong .Should I just pass it and let it go down the road ? Should we not have Inspections so this could be left to drive down a public road ? What about the safety of the driver and occupants ?

SB I hear you. We have very tough emissions tests here to pass and the state will help you after 3 tries if you failed the testing. Without a current inspection sticker on your front windshield you will get a ticket / fine. Thank whomever.

Just what I want to do especially after working my azz off all day in 110 degree heat is to be stuck behind some jack for 2 hours that is gassing me out in rush hour traffic because his piece of crap can't pass emissions or is from a state that has no emissions testing while I pay to have all my autos pass current testing. And believe me very easy in DFW to get stuck in traffic for 2 hours at a complete stand still. This place is driving CF 14 hours out of the day, every freaking day.

This is why I say at least in NH annual inspections are a very necessary thing.

That had at least 20,000 miles left on it...
