Facebook tech.
How many of you guys are on FB? Some of the posts in the powerboat swap shop there, blow my mind.
Last year, there was a guy with a 454/alpha boat. Fresh engine. Ran hot. I advised going thru the typical things, like making sure impeller was good, no restrictions on flow thru the system, like a clogged oil cooler, etc. I was then proceeded to be schooled that his problem is actually because he doesnt have a water thermostat, and therefore thats causing the overheating. How the water is moving too fast thru the engine, not taking away the heat, etc. Literally had guys calling me a fuktard, and how moving the water too fast thru the engine will make it overheat. This is a raw water cooled engine. Anyhow, The owner of the boat took the boat to this guy, and all was gonna be fixed. Last week I see the boat for sale, parted out. I messaged the owner, asking what happened? Since last year, he's blown up 3 engines. Getting out of boating now! Today, theres a guy on there with a stroker 489. He showed his build specs. 489ci, with 242/248 112LSA roller camshaft. With STOCK exhaust. Stock as in , stock cast iron, with silent choice diverters. he plans to run it around 5000RPM max. I mentioned, that not only is that too much cam for what he's doing, its going to revert water with that exhaust, not to mention the exhaust simply choking that build. He said "eh, I understand. Im going to have to make some adjustments when I get it running". I for one, am very thankful for oso. Back when I knew very little about marine engines, I got some solid advice here. Some of these guys are on the road to disaster over there. :rolleyes: |
I have absolutely no interest in Facebook. Maybe I'm just old school but, nothing about Facebook apeals to me.
Are there good deals to be had there? What's the driving factor to log in there? I'm not busting balls, just wondering. |
Also, I too am very thankful for the wealth of good info here.
I've learned a bunch and bought most of my stuff for my project from the membership here. |

I think FB is fun most of the time, my personal page I try to post fun or funny things.... USUALLY... there is good and bad info all over, luckily most of us know enough who to listen to...... |
Its a great place to find used beat up parts, for more than what you can buy them new for.
Lets not forget the huge group of people who think the TRS drive is good for 1000HP over there. :bigbird: |
