I think just asking the shim question and not posting a picture of the head would have yeilded your desired results.

because it was a race motor built for a short hard life and now it is a collectors item hopefully built to survive for another few decades...

it has 2 shims under the intake valve springs. look back at the picture

How about when a shop uses 1.550 springs, in a 1.625 spring pocket, with just a shim. Ive seen that recently, and it doesnt work well.

F'n screename, off topic, but did those engines used closed chamber heads originally?
