Just wanted to see combos and if using Dominators what kinda jetting to start with ... I remember Dave was pretty interested in how those stock, little gooner 600 carbs would work on this supercharged 540cid he was building for this customer. The engine used to be a 509cid and the customer didn't want to buy new carbs and didn't want to make too much HP with the Bravo One drive. Dave said the rev limiter was set @5400rpm...so, he didn't take it any further than that. You can call Dave and ask him yourself :) |

Dave Wesseldyk just assembled and dyno tested a 540cid marine Chevy with the stock rectangle port cast iron heads and small 250 (B&M???) supercharger with a Bob Madara hydraulic cam/lifters, and it made 800 lbs of torque @3500rpm and 700hp @ only 5300rpm with only about 4.5 lbs of boost----and it only had a pair of Holley 600cfm carbs!

What i have seen, is, on roots blowers, IF the carbs are a restriction, you can lose boost. I've seen guys swap out small carbs for bigger carbs, and gain a significant amount of boost. Lets say a guy had 5lbs of boost with a pair of 750's, and he bolted on a pair of 950's, and now had 7lbs of boost with no pulley changes...... He could slow the blower down, to get back to 5lbs of boost, and have a cooler air charge, which not only is worth a little bit of power, but more importantly, a safer tune up. I'd much rather have the twin 600's on a 250 blower, than a single 1050. |

Yeah, I really thought it was kind of interesting...and I just thought 700hp @ only 5300rpm with those little Holley 600's was pretty impressive though....and 800 lbs of Torque. I wonder how many more RPM those 600's could have run on that particular engine before they would start giving up HP...???

Yes. Blow thru, you can make 1200HP with a single 750 carb. Draw thru, that will never happen.
Air flow's because of pressure drop. Depending onwhere these psi differences are, depends onwhat something will flow. |

Blow thru changes the rules. per say. You are changing the atmosphere before your restriction vs after it.

Anytime you pick up air speed you'll remove more heat from surfaces....think winter ! Or brutal hot summer....we all feel this.
However, put a liquid in that ....think spraying carb cleaner with your fingers in the atomization,,,,and temps drop fast ! Lower than actual air temp...by a lot. here's your icing....and there is how AC works. Thus why you need an intercooler on a dry intake system before you do with a wet system. On a brutal hot day withno breeze stand there unil you can't stand it and then get in front of a fan. Great ! And then stand in frt of one with a water mist going thru it. Awesome ! Thenturnup the fan speed. Chilly ! Remember, you whereoverheating, now you have goosebumps and slightly uncomfortable due to the coolness. Air speed (same air temp) and liquid. Bingo. |
