I then spoke to Drew marine and they told me to add water dumps to my exhaust just before it gets to the short riser. I made up custom tee fittings for this and ran 1/2" lines from each exhaust out the side of the boat. There was plenty of water still coming out of the risers. Drew marine said (quote) I don't care what cam you have and what pipes you have, If you do not want reversion dump the water. I also purchase 2 sets of shotgun silencers, not for noise reduction but for adding some back pressure. That was it !!!!. Problem solved!! I can idle in loud mode all day with no problem. No load up, no missing, etc. So maybe, after doing the above what Drew marine suggested my problem went away 75%. So those rust spots are only about 25% of reversion for about 3 years now. Maybe i'm still getting a slight mist of moisture not causing any idling issues with this new setup. My heads have been on the boat only 3 years. Does this make sense to anyone??

I like your carbs

The guy who added the dumps was onto something , no 2 engines are the same be it water pressure in the block the bottom 4" of the block filled with silt or who knows . Keep enough in the tails at idle to keep the soft parts alive .
its on my bucket list and doubtful will ever happen but but would love to measured idle water dump volume of the early hp500s that ate thier valve seats from reversion and that of the ones that did not.
It looks kinda funny but the overboard dump also gives ya a constant visual of water flow for your engine too .

I added the dumps and they are staying there even with my new extended pipes. Having those water ports I can tell if I have water flow to my exhaust and also if i am sucking up mud on low tide. Last summer I came in on a really low tide and the water coming out was black..I turned around and went back out until the tide came back in.

Hopefully these pipes stop the reversion

Curious to see anymore pix of the new dumps and extension. Thinking of ditching the silent choice on my tall Gil risers and extending them out.

Yes I called Eddie Marine and told them I have been having a constant problem with reversion...They didn't say much, But they gave me a reasonable price on converting my short risers to the long ones.
