525 Sea/Fuel Pump

I'm going to be replacing the the sea/fuel pump on my 525. The new one arrived today and what I think would be the cam that operates the fuel pump is loose on the shaft. I can spin it with my finger. I have not removed the old pump yet. What am I missing? Is this right?

So you can spin the lobe while holding the shaft stationary ?

I looked up the parts again & I think what I'm seeing is #13 that rides no #12.

My computers not pulling up your photos, just a red X, so are you sure you are not talking about the slip ring that's on the lobe ?

It basically slips on lobe (part of shaft) so it goes up and down and the lever of the fuel pump does not get scrubbed (lack of a better word) from the spinning lobe itself. I'm guessing. I think they might have done this for a metellurgy stand point for better wear ?, or they simply couldn't put a big enough lobe on the shaft and press it thru the body.....not sure as I haven't had one of these apart....just pump off for cavity oil change or pump replacement. |
Yeah there's a sleeve that can spin on the eccentric acts like a bearing.

that's the way its supposed to be..don't forget blue hp gear oil ..what are u doing with the old pump

Thanks guys for the help. This will be the first time for me seeing one of these apart. There's probably not any gear oil left in the old one. I noticed it was leaking water out of the front of it at the end of last summer. Probably filled with pink antifreeze right now. lol. I plan to try & rebuild the old one so I have a spare.

Be glad they use that slip ring. PO didn't change the lube - ever it seemed. What came out was almost pure gas (the pumps all leak a small amount) and metal from the ring. Much cheaper than replacing the shaft.
