Helical asymmetrical oil pump
Just thought I would throw this out there.
Mellings "Shark Tooth Pump" Check it out http://www.mellingselectperformance.com/ |
Pretty cool design. At first glance looks like an sea pump impeller...
|
mark, what are your thoughts on the helical gears, pros&cons?
|
Not exactly new, lots of engines have had helical cut oil pumps. Older Fords & Studebakers for a couple.
|
Studebakers and older fords would be new to me also. Anything much past my 69 anyway. Did a quick google search and sounds like it was tailored toward the new sbc. Didn't spend much time on it though.
|
I'd have to be really out of things to fix in my boat before I started to worry about oil pump efficiency.

Cool, but what problem is this solving? |

Significant reduction in pressure ripple, Reduction in torque ripple in pump drive. Reduction in spark scatter. Improved distributor gear wear and intermediate shaft wear. Improved sealing of gear tips. Reduced internal leakage. Improved efficiency and performance. Increased inlet vacuum. Primes Faster. |
