Tranny vs bravo boats
Are most of you guys with tranny boat's running flex plates or flywheels, I'm running into an issue converting from a bravo coupler to a pressure plate style. I'm needing to open up the center ring of the flywheel 1.5 inches to accommodate the new coupler with its riveted on spring plate, the bravo coupler is flat on the back where this one is raised about an 1/8 inch. I know the fix just wondering what u guys are running. Does a marine flywheel have a larger center than a car application,

Running flywheels, with a damper plate that bolts to the flywheel.

Never had an issue, bolted several different style damper plates to the flywheels.

Here's the issue, is this not the correct one ?? thanks for the reply's guy's

OK, I see your problem. Some machining may be necessary with that particular plate. Call these guys . they will explain. They make them.

Thanks, Mild............ seems I'm spinning why wheels, getting this thing moving forward,

I vaguely remember that certain damper (drive plates) required machining of the flywheel. Mainly the big heavy duty ones from what I recall. Its been a while since I fooled with that.
Your typical cheap trs style plate won't have those issues. Those aren't rated for big power. Mine, are rated for 1000ft lbs, pretty much the ones merc supplied with the #6 package .then there are the ones that take even more power, and may require machining of the flywheel. |
Looks like a billet aftermarket flywheel, not a typical factory one, that will play a role in it I think....also check starter ring I think the Bravo sits on the inside of the flywheel where a trans flywheel the ring is on outside of it.... that I kn ow is different from Bravo to Trans...

i guess the obvious..."you got the coupler on backwards" doesn't apply here? and i would rather settle for bravo drives. trannys look funny in a bikini...

Second pic is of a typical TRS driveplate. Mercury used these on transmission boats up to 420HP engines. Anything 465HP and over, got the HD drive plate (first pic), up to 900sc applications...and yes, I have seen the TRS plates explode. A buddy of mine exploded one, and when it blew apart, it put a hole in his bellhousing! :pacifier:

Mild, are you saying my coupler is or is not HD ?
|
Can you post a pic of it ? Front side

I don`t know if this helps but here`s the HD version (Red) vs the standard (only rated to 450 hp if I recall correctly)

http://halemarine.com/index.php?main...roducts_id=521 http://bpi.ebasicpower.com/mm5/merch...OR1004-650-002 I know nothing about that plate as far as what kind of power/rpm it can handle. Considering the cost being 180-200 bucks, compared to the 500+ dollar range for the HD high performance ones, that might worry me a little. Not sure how much power you will be putting to it...... |
