Read post # 27 and then problem 8 in that post 27. The reason about the caps.

Then read this link below post 2. These HVS caps and rotors are problem childs.

http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/d...ough-idle.html

and that same link is in post # 30 in this thread. posting this as reference about these darn caps and rotors. They do not last and a couple of years ago most all of them bad right out of the box. .

The dealer is not really happy haha but I deal with them to only pay 2 hours of labor since I never told them to diagnostic the problem and I only left the boat there for a Scan.

Did the Sierra cap have brass colored contacts?
I just replaced these style parts on my Suburban with Delphi parts. The Delphi/AC Delco parts are recommended over aftermarket.
No brass contacts though.

The only time I see better service life with the brass contact caps + etc is when I'm using a higher power ignition system like MSD, Crane, or etc. That said, with the GM distributors and those higher power ignitions I've only used Accell Cap/Rotors and I am no where near salt air.

On your GM vehicle, try to stay with AC Delco + Delphi for all electronics. Aftermarket replacement parts is getting worse and worse by the day...makes my biz ultra tough !

The HVS caps and rotors on the marine side are really bad at keeping condensation under the cap. Its been a huge problem from day one even in NON SALT areas. Even boats stored inside storage that see temp swings. The worst. here is a SB about some of it and more good info.

SB = service bulletin = link below

the other SB = CFM Tech (correct) I thought that you might get a laugh about this one. Darn Northeasterner.
