Default T-stat housing plunbing

On a '99 502 with the stock t-stat housing, 2 hose design, is the unused plugged port next to the sender, block pressure?

Moving my WP gauge hose from black drains up to housing. Want to make sure I'm still reading the block pressure and not be influenced by the open/closed state of thermostat or in the discharge cavity, w/o having to remove it to verify flow paths

Thanks
