Mike I think he means Vapor lock as he stated push the Schrader valve and if air comes out meaning that fuel boiled off. No fuel - air
I understand CARB engine = NO SCHRADER VALVE. |
I think starting fluid should be banned.
It be alot easier to diagnose the problem, when it actually not getting spark. Things like checking for voltage at various ignition components really helps. Otherwise, you end up guessing at the problem and throwing parts at it. A test light and or multimeter go a long way for maintaining and diagnosing your engine when problems arise. Gut tells me sounds like a coil. But, could be a hundred other things. |
Mike no I did not get a PM they are full all the time.
here is my email if needed. put a title on it so I know who it is from [email protected] |

I have been using this type of sealed inline spark checkers to check for spark and run engines with them connected inline.
Buy 8 of them and hook inline and crank engine over - you can even run the engine to watch spark events. You can place one from the coil wire to distributor cap to back check as well. I have ones many years ago from Matco. These would work well to. http://www.amazon.com/Lisle-20610-In.../dp/B0002STSC6 |

Thanks going to get a spark tester today never new about them pretty cool !

OP,
My buddys 2001 454 did the exact same thing last year, if it sat an hour no start, let it sit 3 hours and fires right up. I don't know if your ignition is the same as his 2001, but there is some ignition module underneath the rotor plate inside the distributor that we tracked the problem too. Had to remove the distributor shaft in order to replace the bad component, boat runs like a champ again. good luck! |

Once you get used to them, you can even use to check for weak spark. Edit in: most every auto part store has these even if the counter person doesn't think they do. |
There's a test sequence in my manual to check individual ignition components in the TBIV system. I'll have to look it up for you.
