Similar problem, same engine. Was the fuelpump.

Well changed coil , took it out then noticed the temp gauge was up at 200 brought it back down to idle and temp gauge started bouncing from 170 - 200 opened hatch and noticed the water line off the thermostat housing going to the exhaust manifold was jerking around as if water was not constant , gonna check the sea pump this weekend .
