That's exactly how I do it when they have adjustable mounts. That's a two hour job. If you quit playing around on the computer u could go knock it out take it out for a sea trail and still be in bed at a decent time. Depending on how the sea trail goes.

Lol, you have jokes.... I don't have all the parts on hand yet. Still trying to figure out how I'm going to pull engine. I don't have an Auto lift available,at this time, first choice, and an Engine Cherry Picker is not tall enough, unless of course I somehow bolt it in the bed of my truck. My truck happens to be on 40" Tires and 10" Lift, not a pleasant option drilling holes in my bed either. The tree branch suggestion has come up, Red neck engineering at its finest, Mother nature can build some tough trees, however, my yard consists of Bushes and Palm Trees, The type trees with no branches. I'm new to the area, so haven't networked with anyone that may have a fork lift on hand. Id like to have the boat in the water for the 4th, so I'm motivated, just getting all things in order and devising a plan.

Many years ago my brother and his buddy pulled a 440 Dodge motor by building an A-frame out of 4x4's, and used a chain hoist. I have read on here that someone did the same thing with a boat. Triangulation is your friend.

Harbor freight sells a Gantry Crane for like $750.00, And then add the chain hoist to it, another $50-75. It measures about 9ft across and can go up to 8' I think. Ive looked at it, however, Its a one time use, WTF am I gonna do with a $900 Contraption after this job? make a swing outta it I suppose. But its a hefty investment, for a non paying job. lol

Knew a guy one time that grabbed a chainfall towed his boat with unbolted motor on trailer out under a low backroads bridge slung a long tow chain around a support from underneath ,lifted it out ,pulled out then backed his truck and boat under the hanging motor in a "v" position lowered motor in bed of pickup grabbed his chain and chainfall and down the road he went .

I substantially reinforced a ceiling rafter in my pole barn and put a chain hoist on it. I will tell you this much - with a half ton of BBC hanging in the air, I am hesitant to trust my life and fiberglass to a chain made overseas of unknown metalurgy. At least go for the biggest, highest capacity chain that you can afford. Some of the stuff that looks substantial in the hardware store can let you down in a big way. Had to replace motor mounts in a Dodge Dakota one time. Used a chain that I had laying around with my cherry picker to lift the motor up off the mounts. I had just pulled the old mounts out of there and BAM! - that chain busted. A second earlier and my hand would have been pinned in there. I always catch my breath a little when that motor is hanging up there in space 10 feet off the concrete floor.

For half that purchase price you should be able to find someone who would pluck it out and set it back in with a forklift or something. Of course, I guess you might be able to sell it on CL after you are done and get some of your money back. Or hang onto it - you will find out if you hang around OSO for a while that boat engines have a habit of going in and out of a boat numerous times. ;)

Looking to rent a Gantry Hoist from Sunbelt rentals. $250 per day. Or Pick up Friday and Drop on Monday for 1 day price. Sounds like a winner. I'm rounding up all other parts I need to knock engine out.

Put in a new starter also & make sure its nice and tight !!!!!
