Default Kiekhaefer throttles issue

I have Kiekhaefer controls on a fairly new to me boat with twins, I've noticed that one of the throttles is much harder to move than the other and this weekend it actually got stuck at about 3/4 throttle until I yanked back on it with a bit of force. Any idea what the issue might be and what to do? Like I said, one feels great, nice smooth action from click to click, but the other..... Thanks!

Jay

Disconnect the cable from it, and verify its either the cable, or control unit

Great idea, I'll do that tomorrow evening. So if it is in fact the control unit then what? Cable is obvious.

The controls come apart. There are some plastic slide pieces inside, springs, and a little ball. The ball is what makes the ratcheting noise. Something could be broken, or in serious need of cleaning, and lubricating the parts inside. My guess though, is its the cable.

Control unit is simple....there is a little ball and spring that rides on a plastic piece with little holes (that gives you the ratchet feeling) and provides the tension. I hate the ratchet feeling so I make a smooth piece of plastic.with no holes/

I would suspect the cable rather than the controls as well....

Ditto. Just rebuilt a set of these controls, not much to go wrong and drag that badly.

Well I pulled the cables off and no difference, so went on to pull the whole control unit out. Took it all apart and there are two balls in there that click into place, well one of the two "tracks" was worn so badly that I think the ball bearing was getting stuck in the holes. So when I reassembled them I left that one out. They feel 100% smoother now. Thanks for the help guys, almost wish it was just the cable.

No, replacing cables is not fun either depending on your model.....
