525 coolant recirculation pump

Guys
I was getting ready to winterize my motors when I noticed the water pump had a small leak from the weep hole. I don't want it leaking coolant all winter. Is the water pump rebuild able where I can replace the seal ?? Or will I have to get a whole new pump??

Thanks

I doubt it will leak without any pressure in the system.
I would just replace the entire recirc pump.

I would plan on replacing it. I highly doubt it will leak over the winter without the engine running. The biggest problem is that all of that water that is coming out of the weep hole is passing through the bearings on it's way out. Eventually, it will trash the bearings in the pump. That is a marine pump with either a bronze or SS impeller, shaft and rear cover plate. I'm not sure if the bearings and/or seal differ from an automotive pump, so I wouldn't know where to tell you to get parts. DO NOT put an automotive pump on it. You can use an aftermarket pump, like Sierra, but they are not as good as the OEM pumps. They are a fraction of the cost though, so you could change it a few times before you spent as much as the Merc pump. But, there is a difference. I have used some aftermarket pumps in the past with good luck, but I have also had some that started leaking after a year or so.

YP - 525EFI is closed cooling right ? Excuse my ignorance on the 525, but I would think it wouldn't need the same deal recirculating pump as a raw water cooled.

You know what you (in this case , me, lol) get for assuming. Thus why I'm posting this.

a jist of the difference between auto to marine water circ pumps in post # 7 - the link to thread below.

SB the pumps are the same for closed to raw cooling.

Ooops - I assumed it's a 525EFI.
