Ok, we need a new thread: quench

I know the 311 is never going to be a fast hull compared to the hulls with the newer technology out there, so I am not going to go too wild with horsepower and the money associated with it.
There aren’t a lot of options for iron heads, but the 308 eagles have a smaller intake volume than the 088/188s and are very similar to the Dart Pro 1 310 aluminums. I think those, a little more compression, victor jr intake, and more cam to suit would be a nice horsepower increase.
Things can blow out of proportion easily on the site (especially this time of year) but I appreciate everyone’s advice and take it into consideration. I’m not trying to set a world record on the most hp/ci of a BBC, but my initial thought was 550hp @56-5700rpm. If it doesn’t make it, ok, but either way it will make more power.
So regarding the quench & compression, based feedback here, I am thinking of using the .027 cometic gaskets and am shooting for 9.0-9.2:1 compression. I plan to have the heads milled to meet the compression number, and everything will be measured.

Is the 308 the ideal head for what youre doing , eh, no. Would you do better witha smaller oval like the dart 275 , afr 265, trick flow 270, etc, im sure. How much, idk.
I do know, the average 489/496 stroker marine build, 89 octane setup, with a decent set of aftermarket heads, roller cam, usually do 575-600hp.

In all seriousness, I am on track and am that much closer putting my final plan together and ordering parts.
