mpi and efi intakes?

Plenum is done other than slight sanding to align the tb flange, started cutting down intake dividers in lower intake today, used a ball mill on sides of where i cut the dividers to lessen the amount of hand grinding.

After some tedius port matching, hand blending of cut down runner dividers the 500 msnifold and tps monster throttle body are on there way to South Carolina to be tested on a 509 in back to back testing w a fairly stock 500 intake, will post results as soon as i here them! About the time it gets back i should have my 540 on my dyno, found a tight area thats only about 3.15 to 3.2 sq inchesi mdway thru 4 of the 8 runners that really couldnt be opened up much by hand grinding, in comparison to smallest pinch point on my open plenum intake at 3.85 sq inches so starting to doubt all the work was worth it, going to be interesting though, real question is how much tq will go away vs hp gain, Smitty

Dyno testing under way in SC, so far he tested a stock throttle body vs azsm on a stock 500 manifold w exception of inlet mod for azsm throttle body andsaw a 10 hp advantage w azsm vs stock ( dart heads, 509 ci, bigger than stock cam), the modded plenum was then tested w a stock throttle body, also saw a 10 hp gain over stock manifold/stock throttle body and notorious tq dip these mpi manifolds are known for gone. Heres where things DON'T make sense, saw virtually NO hp gain bolting the azsm throttle body or even bigger tpis throttle body on with modded plenum except 1-2 hp and a extra 100 rpms before peaked. I hope to hear test results with modded lower tommorrow, fwiw, smitty

It very well may, thats why I bought a intake and throttle body to baseline when I test this stuff on my 540, I'm porting the open plenum intake today as we speak, if Mark doesnt make any real gains with the 500 stuff I may box it up and send it to him too! IF I dont come very close in hp with a torque advantage with the 500 stuff that will be what ends up on my boat, Smitty

Test results in, from everything we see w modded upper/lower and bored out throttle body gave up 15-18 ft lbs tq and 5 hp, still going to test on my 540 as this 502 acted like it needed LESS intake, throttle body and long runners, defys logic but only way to find this out was to test it, will post a thread when i dyno my 540 and put all this info and new info together, Smitty

That's way I would be looking.. A nice single plane, or what used to be the old Victor Junior setup is just hard to beat. You could put an adapter on that intake to change throttle body direction, and then incorporate that big single blade.
