Ford install with a Merc Sterndrive?

I was wondering if there would be any interest in a magazine article about installing a modern 302 or 351 Windsor Ford engine into a boat with a Mercruiser Alpha sterndrive.
Any response would be welcome.

dennis,

I have always been a ford guy, i own only ford cars and trucks..
But when it comes to marine , i think people feel the parts are just not available.. i think it would make an interesting artical though......

i would love to power up a boat with some classic 429 side oilers..

I would be real interested in seeing the results of a built Powerstroke Deisel in a performance boat. 400 hp and 700ft pds seems pretty easily accomplished with pulution comntrol devices. I imagine a stripped down marin version would be killer and never understood the lack of interest in trying the application. Personally, I love the whine of my PDS turbo and fuel mileage/longevity is killer. If you have any thoughts or info on this I would be interested.

Are you talking about the way it was done in the mid 70's?

Fords

I was thinking about doing an article on swapping a V8 into a boat that originally had a four cylinder. I could put in a Small Block Chevy but I thought that maybe some people might be interested in a small block Ford. The 302 Fords are becoming very popular with automotive hot rodders (5.0 Mustang GT's) and I thought that some of them might also like a boat with a 302 or a 351 Ford. I don't think that there is much interest in building a big block Ford for a stern drive because the parts are very expensive. The Ford would be carbureted.
