Just bought a 1989 Sea Ray Pachanga 27..454 Bravo...anyone know if there is any wood in the transom? Another forum commented that there is no wood in this hull.

I have a 32...yes they have wood on the transom

Thanks...would you categorize the transom as a big weakness in these kind of SeaRay's. I read a lot of good things about SeaRay's open checkbook policy when designing and building these boats. Thanks,again.

Well...my transom seems fine. My problems cam from water getting under the cockpit deck and rotting the wood underneath. The rear bulkhead between the fuel tank and engineered compartment was gone also. I don't know the differences in the 27 and 32 as far as where the length was added. If the 27 cockpit is anything like the 32 then get down under the cockpit floor and poke around. Also look under the rear seat where the floor meets the rear bulkhead. The boats used a mid sump under the cockpit so there is no path for water to reach the rear if that sump fails. The build quality is good but time and weather will always show the weaknesses. Is your boat a twin or single?

It's a single engine 454 Bravo interesting what you say, I read somewhere about a drainage issue. I still have a chance to back out but this sale is through a very old (1890's ) dealer who sold this boat back in 1989 and sold the owner another two boats. So they know him and describe him as someone who really looks after his stuff.
This is also a 100% freshwater boat.

The only difference in the 32 and 27 is the cabin is longer in the 32. Its pretty hard to get water up front unless you leave it uncovered in a rain storm. I have not checked mine in years.

It's your call...I'd do some looking under the cockpit and around the cabin. Also tap around on the bulkhead at the front of the engine bay. I didn't look around enough on mine and got stuck with a bigger project than I planned.

27 Pachanga with a 454 Magnum will do low 50s. Buddy had one then put a 502 in and got low 60s. Good riding boats but heavy

Don't want to hijack this thread, but I also purchases a Sea Ray Pachanga 27, twin 350's....the Pachanga 27 decal is in need of replacing also some pin striping could be replaced, suggestions??
