it may look like it but the machined recess of the fulcrum is on the top. THe nut goes down in it a 16th or so.

thanks glenamy. i never thought to call a harley shop.
and Mild thunder, yeah this may line things up better on the rods but your right, it's not helping the thread issue much. the slightly shorter rods will only give me an extra thread or 1 1/2 threads. still at only 5.5 to 6 threads.

Let me ask ya'll this.

Is it possible ...... that different brands use wider/bigger trunions ???????????????????????

Maybe the cheaper units make them bigger diameter to hold up. a larger diameter trunion would definitly cause this.

Mine measured close to 3/4" through the hole in the trunion.

ok, these rockers are the problem. look at every big block rocker and the valve side is up a LOT higher. tips the pushrod side up higher. drops the rocker farther down on the stud. this ebay ad shows decent side view of crane golds...http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gold-Crane-B...dWljp1&vxp=mtr

Kurt, looking at your rockers those look like the S/S ones I used. I bought P/N 249-4512-16 from Jegs (1.9) rocker studs. I had the same problem you do. I then bought P/N 070-334-7204 (2") from Jegs and problem solved. Does not solve the pushrod length problems and I do question the wisdom of grinding on the valves.

Glen, i looked at those yesterday, but the bottom thread into the head is 7/16. mine is 3/8" thread. The heads are back on. i wish i would have known i would have this issue ahead of time i would have drilled and tapped the 3/8" out to the 7/16".

GLENAMY 242SS 04-22-2016 09:10 PM

Yea my heads were 781's. I saw you had 3/8 threads but wanted to share my solution for same problem. Now the question is new rockers or more head work it looks like.

Have you measured to see what lift you are getting at the valve?

GLENAMY 242SS 04-22-2016 09:31 PM

Strange timing but my neighbor is upgrading to roller cam assembly in his SBC car right now and is having same problem with the high lift very large rockers from Lunati, Summitt has him convinced that 3-4 turns on nut is OK. Give me a couple of weeks and I will let you know how that turns out.

not measured. Specs show the lift is .483 for the stock 502 cam.
